NMM: Echosmith

I discovered Echosmith while watching a special video from Atlantic Records of Hunter Hayes' song "Everybody's Got Somebody But Me." I listened to some of the band's own music and instantly became a fan.

Echosmith is comprised of Jamie, Noah, Sidney and Graham Sierota, four siblings from Los Angeles, Calif., ranging in age from 14 to 20 years old. The indie-pop band has a unique sound and is influenced from a wide range of bands including Fleetwood Mac and Coldplay. Echosmith has already gained a lot of popularity after it signed to Warner Bros. Records in 2012. The band's first single, "Tonight We're Making History," was featured in a NBC promo for the 2012 Summer Olympics. Since then, Echosmith released its debut album Talking Dreams on October 8, 2013 and earned a spot on the 2014 Vans Warped Tour.

The song I've come to love is simply called "Cool Kids." In a way, it kind of has an eerie vibe to it but it also has a very powerful message. The song talks about a boy and a girl who just want to be noticed and who want to fit into the crowd but, as Jamie Sierota said in an interview with Radio.com, the message is pretty simple: the coolest thing you can be is yourself. It was also noted in the interview that Echosmith has developed a unique rapport with fans. Jamie said that the band often meets fans after shows and he noticed that, since the members of Echosmith are musicians and close to the majority of their fans' ages, the fans feel they can be open with the band about anything.

"Cool Kids" is one of my favorite songs I've heard all year. The song almost put me in a trance and I was engulfed in the lyrics when I listened to it. The song deserves a lot of attention and has a great message that not only teens and young adults but people of all ages should hear.
