"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

This is my favorite MLK quote, bar none. And it's incredibly pertinent to today's times. Amazing to think that hatred, bigotry and, yes, racism still exist in our country today. There is still much darkness out there. From mass murders, to terrorist attacks, to just bonafide hatred for others. This hatred and bigotry has even been seen in politics - especially this year's presidential election. I'm sure you know what I mean. Hatred comes in all forms but it seems to be running rampant on social media in recent years. Heck, I had to report two people this past week - one on Facebook and one on Instagram - for using the "N-word" while commenting on posts. Thankfully, I didn't know either of them.

I just don't get it. How can you have hatred for anyone? Sure, you might hate something that a person does, but how can some people hate others without knowing them or getting to know them? It truly boggles my mind and I'll never understand it.

My prayer is that, if you're reading this and happen to hold hatred towards another person in your heart, that you will make it your mission to work through that hatred and turn it into compassion in 2016. After all, as Dr. King so eloquently said, only light and love can drive out darkness and hate.
