My Friday Five: On UNC Case Conclusion, Lime Skittles & Bruno Mars

1. It’s Over

The UNC academic case has finally come to a close. Finally.

After years of dark clouds, allegations and sensationalism by certain members of the media, the NCAA Committee on Infractions' (COI) report was released to the public today. In it, the COI ruled that it could not find that the university committed any violations, therefore, no sanctions would be brought down. SEC commissioner and COI chair, Greg Sankey, said “While student-athletes likely benefited from the so-called “paper courses” offered by North Carolina, the information available in the record did not establish that the courses were solely created, offered and maintained as an orchestrated effort to benefit student-athletes.”

What it all boiled down to was bylaw interpretation, with Bylaw 16.3 being at the forefront. According to Greg Barnes of Inside Carolina, the bylaw mandates academic and other support services be made available to student-athletes. UNC used this bylaw to argue against the NCAA's charge that the African and Afro-American Studies department courses in question were "special arrangements" and the ACC's compliance office agreed with the university.

Its been a crazy past several years. I know that rival fans are crying over the decision today but it’s time to move on.

2. Late Night with Roy 2K17

That being said, it's time to celebrate the beginning of the 2017-18 basketball season for Carolina - and boy, what a celebration it's going to be! Late Night with Roy 2K17 is tonight in Chapel Hill. In addition to the usual Late Night festivities, the men's team will unveil its seventh - yes, seventh - National Championship banner. Stay tuned to my Twitter and Instagram for coverage of all the fun from the night!

More info on Late Night can be found here.

3. Bruno Mars Takes Raleigh Stage

This has been years in the making for me. I finally got to see Bruno Mars live on Thursday night. The incredibly talented artist played a near-sold-out PNC Arena - and it was awesome! I've had the tickets since last December or so and had been looking forward to the show since. Let me tell ya, he didn't disappoint. Bruno performed for about an hour and a half, singing some of his biggest hits such as "Just the Way You Are" and "When I Was Your Man," as well as his most recent blockbuster tunes "24K Magic" and "That's What I Like." Definitely worth it!

4. Lime Skittles Return

You heard it here, folks: lime Skittles are BACK! Your boy found them at a local Wal-Mart on Wednesday and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve loved Skittles ever since my maternal grandmother introduced me to them many years ago. When Skittles decided to change the green ones to green apple flavor instead of lime, I was pretty disappointed. To see them back, albeit for a limited time, has brought back those great memories with my grandmother.

Whats more? Jones Angell and Adam Lucas, hosts of the Carolina Insider Pod, have talked  about the absence of lime Skittles on the show in recent months. I made sure to tweet them when I found these and I was mentioned on their show today. Pretty awesome!

5. Reptar Bars In Real Life?

F.Y.E. stores are selling Reptar Bars. Yep, you read that right. The entertainment chain is selling the once fictional candy bars from the 90s Nickelodeon show, The Rugrats, and I couldn’t be happier as a 90s kid. Yes, I’m well aware that I’m still a child haha! The candy bars also, just like on the show, turn your tongue green as well. I’ll let you know if I find one!
